No judgement...please, but I'm a parent of a daughter who currently sleeps in the bed with me and my husband. I know what you are thinking. "Why? How did you let this happen? You know better!" And you are right! I can count on one finger how many times she has actually slept in her crib since she was born. For a first-time mom, a few hours of sleep without walking across the hall to check on her was the price I was willing to pay for what is now an issue. My daughter slept in a bassinet in our room until she was 5 months old, but as she grew, it became convenient for her to sleep in our bed. Now, years later, as our daughter approaches her 3rd birthday, it is time for her to (respectfully) move out.
Let me just state, that she has always had her own room and bathroom. I spent a little time while pregnant nesting and decorating her space as I prepared for her arrival. Here is a panorama of the original nursery. My apologies for the low quality.

So the challenge was to create a big girl room that my daughter, Ayla cannot deny. For weeks, we have been talking about it, buying items (bedding, pillows, accents, books) and showing them to her. We have been hyping her up about sleeping in her very own big girl bed and telling her how awesome it is going to be.
To keep costs down, I kept the original color scheme, artwork, furniture and curtains for her room. We simply conducted a refresh to upgrade the room and bed to "big girl status." At the end of the day, we wanted to invest in a room that she would be excited about and could grow into for years to come. Here is how it all turned out.
