CONTAINER PLANTING WITH SUMMER"SUPER" PLANTS

After refashioning the Ballard Designs Beauclaire planters I bought earlier this spring, it was time to plant them for a beautiful front door display. In the hustle and bustle of life, people often forget that outfitting the outside of a home well is as equally important as outfitting the inside. Container planting gives my home great curb appeal with just a little effort.

Each year I plant my containers using the thriller, filler, spiller model. This year I decided to mix annuals, perrenials, and evergreens for a more permanent and consistent arrangement. The color scheme for my growing garden consists of greens (my favorite color), pinks, purples, and whites. I wanted the planted planters to flow with those colors.

Here is my original design. Don't laugh. I am sensitive about my work.

Here are the containers when they were first planted:

My front door faces west and receives hot-blazing sun from noon until sunset. Each of these plants loves full sun and thrives on the heat. Aren't they fabulous? What are you guys planting around your garden and in your containers?
