DINING CHAIR RESTORATION

Writer's picture: Outfitting SpacesOutfitting Spaces

I scored these wonderful chairs from my husband's grandmother. Everyone thought I was crazy for taking them home. How could I blame them? These things were U-G-L-Y!

When I got them home, I stripped them down. They needed cleaning from years of dust, grime, and Georgia red clay. The chairs were so old the cushion’s foam had turned into dust. Gross!

I washed the chairs with soap and water, and allowed them to dry for a few days. Then I stripped the chairs with rubbing alcohol.

Once the chairs dried, I painted them with Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Antique White and covered them in a Waverly Duck Egg Blue fabric I found at Hobby Lobby. My Sewing machine needed repair so I called my favorite local Upholstery shop in McDonough to make me double welt piping.

This is how the chairs turned out.  No one could believe they were the same chairs when they came to my home for a party.

I love my chairs. They fit perfectly into our current home when we moved in.

Isn’t the transformation amazing?
