My master suite project has been in the making for a long, long time. When we first built our house nearly 7 years ago, my focus at the time was to get the first floor furnished and decorated (which is still a never ending project). I must say, we have made some significant strides over the years to customize our home. However, this year, I've made it my mission to work on my master suite. So yep... I've been living with builder beige walls and no decorations for over 6 years in my bedroom. In all honesty, working on this project has been a challenge. I admit, I could have finished my room a long time ago, but for some reason I've really wanted to stretch beyond my design comfort zone and take some risks. I typically like light, natural tones as the the majority of my house is an endless palette of grays, blues, blacks and whites. My goal with my master bedroom suite is to develop a space that is dark, grown and sexy. And since your asked, I've decided to take you on the journey with me to get this room completed once and for all. So here is my disclaimer: "This is not a HGTV show, so my project will not be completed in a 1 blog post episode." I just ask that you pack your patience because it will take me a while to complete this space.
The above image is a mood board for the main area of my master bedroom suite, my first area of focus. The mood board showcases my color palette, inspirational images and furniture pieces that I would like to incorporate in the room. It also includes a mini layout for the space. I use the mood board as a road map to reach my goal. The items showcased are not set in stone because I believe in leaving room for spontaneity when designing a space. For this project series, there will be four areas of focus (in order of priority):
1. Main Bedroom Area
2. Sitting Area
3. His/Her Closet
4. Bathroom
Main Bedroom Area
Wall Built
Part of my struggle with the space was that the room was too large and open. I struggled to developed ways to bring the entire space together, so I decided to divide the space and built a wall.
Paint Color Selected
This was hands down the hardest task of my current design life. But when you get it right, you get it right! Wall Street from Sherwin Williams is my final color of choice and we are beyond happy with it. Yay!!!!!
Lighting Updated
Our room had one, sad, builder-grade, dimly-lit ceiling fan, which didn't give off much light, so we added recess lighting and installed a new modern ceiling fan.
Below is a link to a short video of what has taken place over the past few months. Slowly bit surely, we will get this space done.
