SEASON'S CLEANING

Writer's picture: Outfitting SpacesOutfitting Spaces

If you’re anything like me, the start of the holiday season also means its time to deep clean my house. I love the idea of stepping into the New Year with a fresh, clean start (literally). I don’t practice the tradition of spring-cleaning, so I take this time of year to purge and reorganize my home. I clean my house from top to bottom (i.e., baseboards, windows, dusting, carpets, cabinets, closets, garage, etc.). I used to force myself to get it all done in a few days, which was crazy stressful. But now, I start at the beginning of December and take my time leading up to New Year’s Eve. So if you have been putting off cleaning projects all year long, this is a great time to create your fresh, clean start for the New Year. I know this can be a daunting task, so here are a few quick tips to help you get started.

1. Create A Plan

Take a real look at your home. What areas have you been avoiding? What rooms need the most work? What areas do you skip during your routine cleaning? Those areas can be your starting point. Regardless of where you start, make a weekly plan. Having this plan will help you tackle each area and keep you focused on the task at hand.

2. Organize & De-clutter

Did you know that a disorganized home could add stress to your life? There is noting more stressful than coming home to a pile of mess and clutter after a long day at work. So, spend some time organizing your closets, going through those papers in your office and cleaning out that junk drawer. Let’s eliminate unnecessary stress as you go into the new year.

3. Donate Items to Charity

This may not seem like a cleaning tip, but after you go room-by-room clearing anything that you don't use, wear or love, donate it to charity. This is a great time to help those in need, so donate gently used clothes, toys, and other items and be a blessing to someone who could "really" use it. It addition to helping those in need, your charitable donation could be used as a tax write-off.

4. Hire Help (If Needed)

It’s okay if you can’t do it all. Hire help and outsource jobs you’re not good at or comfortable with. Professional cleaners can do tasks in a few hours that could take you days to accomplish. Sometimes the financial investment of hiring help is well worth your time.

Hopefully these quick tips will motivate you to get your home clean and organized. I promise that you will love the feeling of having a fresh, clean start to the New Year.
