When we moved into our new house I wanted to live in the space for a while to see how it functioned for my family. You know...let my creative juices flow instead of jumping straight into designing the space. But after a few months of looking at builder grade beige walls (which started to drive me a bit crazy) it was time to pick a project. So…I picked the dining room. Why? I thought it would be the easiest room to get done and a good place to start to establish the overall look and feel of my new home.
Before Pictures:
The furniture in the pictures below came from my old house, which had a much smaller dining room. When placed into the new room, it just didn't give me the look and feel that I wanted to acheive. So, I sold this set on Craig's List and started from scratch.

Now, I’m not an avid entertainer. I don’t throw regular dinner parties or host Thanksgiving dinner every year. But when I do entertain, I want my space to feel welcoming and comfortable without looking too causal. After all it is a formal dining room.
I knew I wanted to use a cool color pallet of gray, black, white and natural textures. So first, I started by picking out a paint color from my favorite paint store - Sherwin Williams. The paint color is "Stamped Concrete." I actually used their HGTV brand, which had great coverage and was relatively cheaper than their other brands. Next, I shopped for a rustic-style dining room table and chairs. I like to mix and match wood tones, so I purchased a black table and paired it with linen chairs with white-washed wood legs. I got all of this from one of my favorite stores - Restoration Hardware. Lastly, I finished my room by shopping at my go-to stores for lighting, art work, curtains and room accents (I'll tell you about those places later). And I came up with this…

Beautiful, yet simple right? I hope you love it as much as I do! It has served our family well.
